RESTORATION

Limestone Restoration

The stone floor was identified as limestone and it had received no maintenance other than household weekly cleaning in several years.

The installation and quality of the stone was very good, but the stone was tested and little or no sealer remained from the initial installation.

The area was divided in to two sections.

All sensitive finishes were taped up for protection and the floor was stripped of all previous sealants, maintenance and cleaning products.

Once complete, the grout lines were scrubbed by hand using deck brushes and a strong alkaline based cleaning product.

The floor over the years had received some damage and some holes had been drilled for a set of pocket doors that were never installed.

The holes, damaged areas were repaired and polished back to a grade, similar to that of the floor as it was.

The floor was deep cleaned, rinsed and wet vacuumed, then allowed to dry.

Again, a five-stage diamond polish began, where each stone received 10-12 passes of the diamond pad. Each stage, the watery slurry is removed and rinsed, ready and clean from debris, in readiness for the next pad.

Once completed, the floor was left 48hrs to dry.

Two coats of a colour enhancing, solvent based sealer was applied, and the floor received a final high speed polish with a high diamond content, fine pad.
